In happiness, the Devil appears at the church in San Venganza, where Blackheart's body laid and where Johnny stood. Johnny succeeded in defeating Blackheart and destroying the thousand evil souls of San Vengeanza that Blackheart consumed.
He ordered Johnny as an adult (now as Ghost Rider) to hunt his reluctant son Blackheart and destroy him before he finds the Contract of San Venganza that will give him the power to even overthrow his own father. In the film's actual events, Mephistopheles appears before Johnny Blaze whom he tricked into giving up his soul in return for saving his father from cancer, yet have him killed in a motorcycle accident. Some nearby angels apparently confirm this. Claims that Blaze is possessed not by a demon, but by an angel. This splits him into 666 pieces that Ghost Rider must hunt down and destroy. After tormenting Blaze in Hell for a while, he uses Blaze as a means to physically enter the mortal realm. When Loki first appears, Mephisto is looking at the Soul Crystal that contained Zarathos and Centurious. Mephisto assures him it is merely a coincidence and that he visited Earth only to view this new Ghost Rider with his own eyes. This worries Loki, who pays Mephisto a visit and mentions that this new Ghost Rider resembles John Blaze's Ghost Rider. After the Dan Ketch Ghost Rider is hit by a beam of mystical energy from the Wrecker, Mephisto appears. Zarathos was breifly freed from his prison to torment Spider-Man. Makes a bet he made with the Beyonder to keep the universe alive for another day. Ever since then he has used Zarathos to possess various souls for his own amusement. Reveals that the Ghost Rider possessing Blaze is Zarathos, a being he defeated and enslaved in antiquity with the help of Centurious. However, Mephisto sends the demon Zarathos to posses Blaze, turning him into Ghost Rider. The bargain fulfilled, Mephisto comes to claim Blaze's soul, but is forced back by Roxanne Simpson. Crash does not die - of the disease, but does die of a failed motorcycle stunt. Makes deal with Johnny Blaze to spare the life of Crash Simpson from a fatal disease. Gets Naomi Kale to change into Ghost Rider, thus killing her.
In Spirit of Vengeance, he was portrayed by Ciarán Hinds, who also played Steppenwolf in the 2017 Justice League film, Bill Maplewood in Life During Wartime, Mance Rayder in Game of Thrones, Jonathan Reiss in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, Botticelli Remorso in The Tale of Despereaux and Henry Burke in Trip to Witch Mountain. In the 2007 film, he was portrayed by the late Peter Fonda. He is also the archenemy of Johnny Blaze, the current Ghost Rider that rebels and becomes the one being stopping him from taking over the Earth. He is the Devil who corrupted the Angel of Justice Zarathos so he could create the Ghost Rider, a human possessed by Zarathos' vengeful spirit and contracted to carry out his deeds on Earth.
Mephistopheles, also known as Mephisto and Roarke, is the main antagonist of the Ghost Rider film duology, appearing as the overarching antagonist of Ghost Rider and the main antagonist of its sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
